Lasse Virén is a finnish athlete.
Lasse Virén has won four gold medals at olympics. He is the only one, who has won both 5000 and 10 000 meters races in consecutive olympics. In Munchen olympics 1972 Virén won the 10 000 meters race with a world record time 27.38,4 and 5000 meters race with time 13.26,42. In Montreal 1976 olympics Virén won 10 000 meter race with time 27.40,38 and 5000 meters race with time 13.24,76. In year 1972 Virén trained 7600 kilometers, nearly a double from year 1970.
Career beside sports:
Lasse Virén has been finnish
parlament member between 1997-2007 and 2010-2011. Hän has
been leader of his own municipality from 1993. He has been a policeman, importor of Tiger-shoes and youth project leader of Suomen
Yhdyspankki. After these tasks he has worked with family
transport company, which transported traffic fuels. At the moment
Virén-Yhtiöt Ky transports soil and rockmaterial with own
transport vehicles.

Virén is chosen as a world´s best athlete in 1972 and
Finland´s best athlete in 1972 and 1976. Virén retired
