New York is one of the four worldcities together with London, Paris and Tokio. New York is one of the most important culture- and financecentrum in the world. New York är is the recidence of UN and many other intenationell organizations. New York has most inhabitans of cities in the United States. It is also most densily populated city in the United States. New York is located in the heart of New York metropolitan area, which has 22,7 million people. New York metropolitan area is one of the biggest metropolitan areas in the world. New York metropolitan area includes also areas, which belong to New Jersey and Connecticut states. It also includes Nassau-Suffolk (located in Long Island), which is considered by some as an independent metropol. New York is widely called New York City to seperate it from New York State. About 50 million turists visit New York yearly. New York has several world-famous places: for example Times Square, Cental Park, Wall Street and Manhattanin Chinatown. Times Squarea is called "the Crossroads of the World", Cenral park is the most visited park in the United States, New York Stock Exhange is world´s largest stock exhange and Manhattan Chinatown incorporates the highest concertation of Chinese people in Western Hemisphere.
Background:
It were immigrants from Hollland, who grounded New York in the
southern part of Manhattan island in 1626. The city was called
then Nieuw Amsterdam. In 1664 the english marine occupied the
island and the name was changed to New York according to Yorks
duke. The most tragic moments in
the city´s history were 11th of August 2001, when in
terroristattack against World Trade Center nearly 3000 people
were killed. The city is located in the east coast of United States
within the delta of Hudson river. The city is mostly built on
three islands, which are Manhattan, Staten Island and Long
Island. The area of the city is 1214,4 squadradmeters. New York
is divided on five parts , which are:
Manhattan, 1 620 867 inhabitants. Manhattan is the most
densily populated part of New York.
Bronx, 1 373 659 inhabitants. The north part of the
city.
Brooklyn, 2 528 050 inhabitants. Part of the city with
most inhabitants.
Queens, 2 270 338 inhabitants. Has the biggest area.
Staten Island, 481 613 inhabitants.
