This chapter is dedicated to all those for whom courage and decency are important values.
Peter Forsberg symbolizes these values.
Peter Mattias "Foppa" Forsberg is one of the most
famous and best Swedish ice hockey players of all time.
Forsberg was born at Örnsköldsvik, which is a city of
about 30,000 inhabitants in Northern Sweden. His father is the
ice hockey coach Kent Forsberg.
As a junior Forsberg played for the icehockeyclub MoDo in his
native town of Örnsköldsvik. He made his premier team
debut during the 1990-91 season.
Forsberg entered the NHL with the Quebec Nordiques in 1994-1995
and scored 50 points in 47 games. The Quebec Nordiques
transferred in 1995 to Colorado and was renamed the Colorado
Avalanche. During his tenure with the Colorado Avalanche, Peter
Forsberg had the most glorious moments of his career and won the
Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001.
Pointwise the best season for Forsberg was in 1995-96 with
Colorado Avalanche when he scored 116 points (30 goals and 86
assists) in 82 games.
During the 2002-03 season, Forsberg won the NHL scoring title
with 106 points (29 goals and 77 assists) in 75 games. At the end
of the season he received the Hart Memorial Trophy as
league’s most valuable player and the Art Ross Trophy for
the most points in the league.
Peter Forsberg played five times in the NHL All-Star game. He won
Olympic gold medal in 1994 and 2006, and the World Championship
gold medal in 1992 and 1998.
Peter Forsberg retired in 2011.
Said about Peter Forsberg:
Teemu Selänne:"That
man is a warrior."
Sami Helenius:"A great player and a great man."
Peter Forsberg was a very brave player with a huge heart. "I
don’t give up" was his motto. The downside of his physical
playing style was several injuries. His balance, passing and
skating skills, and ability to shield the puck formed a severe
challenge to the defencemen of the opposite team. He had a great
playing vision and an ability to give winning, freeing passes to
his teammates.
Currently Peter Forsberg works as an assistant general manager of
the Elitserien team MoDo Sports.
